Basket of coffee cherriesGrown in Ethiopia’s Eastern Highlands, Harrar Longberry Coffee is made from possibly the oldest bean still being produced. It is so named because the beans are characteristically longer and more pointed in shape than other Ethiopian Arabica beans, and are considered to be the finest, reputedly having the most diverse and complex flavours to be found in coffee beans. The trees cultivated to produce Harrar Longberry Coffee are grown at altitudes of around 2,000m above sea level, in a subtropical, highland climate. The coffee cherries are harvested between October and February, and the beans sun-dried before being sorted, predominantly by hand.

Ethiopia is often considered to be the birthplace of coffee as it is believed it was first consumed here. The story of its origins goes back to the 9th century, where legend has it that a Sufi goatherd, named Kaldi, noticed how his goats became lively after eating the red berries from a particular bush, and that when such berries were thrown onto the fire, they produced a wonderful aroma, that prompted experiments into brewing the ground up embers, to mix with hot water for a drink.

Although considered to be mild, Harrar Longberry Coffee carries wonderful berry and chocolatey notes that produce a full-bodied, smooth, and aromatic cup, with medium acidity and no bitterness. It’s little wonder that the complex flavours of these delightful golden coloured beans are sometimes described as unique and unusual.

Harrar Longberry Coffee is perfect to use in cafetière or filter coffee machines. It is just one of over 100 wonderful coffees from around the world that Coffee-Direct can deliver directly to your door. Galapagos Coffee PackGalapagos Coffee is a flavoursome, full bodied coffee, as individual and unique as the place it originates from. The Galapagos Islands are considered one of the most spectacular locations in the world to visit, and a nature lover's paradise. They consist of an archipelago of nineteen islands and numerous islets, with a wealth of sun-drenched beaches surrounded by beautiful turquoise seas. Here, coffee bean trees are grown in the mineral-rich soil of volcanic slopes, in a microclimate perfect for coffee cultivation.

The Galapagos Islands are situated in the Pacific Ocean, spread on either side of the Equator, and are part of the Republic of Ecuador. The islands are home to a myriad of exotic flora, fauna, and indigenous wildlife; a number of species found only on particular islands. Here you will find the giant tortoises that the islands are thought to be named after, as well as marine iguanas, frigate birds, albatross, and Darwin's finches; so named after Charles Darwin's visit to the islands in 1835, and subsequent theory of evolution.

Coffee is thought to have been introduced to the Galapagos Islands in the second half of the nineteenth century, when coffee seeds were brought in from Caribbean French colonies; unfortunately too late for Darwin to enjoy! Galapagos Coffee is unusual in that it is cultivated at lower altitudes than most other coffees, and is predominantly shade-grown, with a good balance of sunlight and rainfall. The beans tend to grow larger than other coffee beans, and ripen slowly in cooler temperatures, bringing out subtle and complex flavours. They are then hand-picked and left to dry naturally in the sun.
